Matting Policy

A freshly groomed black dog on a pink grooming table

We have a saying in the grooming world – humanity before vanity.

Not sure if your dog is matted? Take the 1-minute coat check

I pride myself on being a humane groomer, severely matted dogs will be shaved off for their well-being.

De-matting and shave offs are not included in the price of a full groom, there will be an extra cost for a matted coat; this cost contributes towards my extra time and the wear and tear caused to my tools by a matted coat.

According to the Animal Welfare Act 2006 it is the owner’s responsibility to carefully check their dogs coat and brush daily to prevent matting, the build-up of matts in a coat is casual neglect. Therefore, I will not cause pain or discomfort by combing these out, they will be clipped off at an additional charge for your dog’s welfare.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if your dogs coat is severely matted and needs to be removed, I understand that from time to time this may occur and you will not be judged, we will discuss the best and safest way to remove them with the clippers, start the coat afresh and prevent this happening in the future.

Is my dog matted?

A quick check before you book. Tap the dots to see where mats hide, then answer four questions.

Behind the ears

The soft, fine hair behind the ears tangles fastest, and it’s where mats often start.

Your dog’s coat today

1. Can you run a comb through the coat right down to the skin, all over?
2. Can you feel knots or clumps in any of the places on the diagram?
3. Does any of the coat feel tight, flat or felt-like against the skin?
4. Does your dog flinch or seem sore when you brush certain areas?

Answer all four questions to see the result.
